It’s been a busy couple of weeks here at VG Meats but we’re ready for Thanksgiving, and we’re here to make sure your family is ready, too. Because Ontarians have been asked not to have large gatherings, we’ve seen an increase in demand for small and medium turkeys. The demand was so big, we initially sold out! Fortunately, we were able to get some additional birds from a trusted local farming partner. And at present, we have all sizes of turkey available. Now, here’s how to make sure you have everything you need this weekend!

Welcome to October, friends! After a miniature heatwave last week, it is truly beginning to feel like fall. Thanksgiving is coming up fast and this year, we've made it extra easy to order your delicious, local turkey from VG Meats! That’s right, you can now order your holiday turkey online and choose from contactless pick up or home delivery to over 55 locations across southern Ontario. It’s Thanksgiving delivered to your door, and it couldn’t be easier! Here’s how it works.

Around this time last year, we found out that VG Meats butcher extraordinaire Dave Vander Velde had been selected as one of just eight professional butchers chosen to represent Team Canada at the World Butcher Challenge. Exciting news, and a proud moment for our team - after all, we know how great Dave is, but now the world knows!

Many families have kids going back to school this week, whether it’s in a physical classroom or using distance learning methods at home. Labour Day weekend is here and we’re ready to soak up every second. Despite all of the challenges we’ve faced over the past six months, there have been moments of normalcy this summer in the form of long hikes through nature, days spent beside a lake or backyard pool, and BBQs with friends and family. Even with new social distancing measures in place, we’ve found ways to connect and enjoy the summer.

If you read this blog on a regular basis, you know that VG Meats is deeply committed to regenerative agriculture. We’ve written about the subject a number of times over the past year (check out those posts here, here and here if you haven’t seen them yet) and are dedicated to making every single part of our business ethical, sustainable and beneficial to our community. This community includes our family, our customers and naturally, our amazing staff. Knowing this, we were very interested when the concept of a regenerative organization was presented to us some time ago - essentially, approaching human resources the way we approach farming and the land.

It’s been another beautiful week of sunshine and blue skies here in southern Ontario, and we’re soaking in every moment of summer while it’s still here. We hope you’ve been able to get outside for a hike, a swim or even a nap in your favourite hammock. We’re not going to tell you how to spend your summer, of course, but we sure do want you to enjoy it!
