Fun twists on old favourites: meal ideas from VG Meats
Canadians have been spending a lot of time at home lately, and that means a lot of home cooking. You may be loving this time to experiment with baking homemade bread and testing new recipes, or you might be totally over it and bored with the same old dishes week after week. If you’re in the latter category, here are a few easy switch-ups that will make your favourites new again.
Turkey Chili
Love chili, but need a change? Try turkey chili instead! It’s lean, flavourful and just as easy to make as traditional beef chili. We love it with sliced avocado and sour cream on top (add green onions or chives if you have some). You can simply substitute ground chili in your favourite recipe, or try a recipe like this one that’s designed specifically for poultry. Prefer ground chicken or even ground pork? Go for it - there are no rules!
Kale Chicken Caesar Salad
A lot of people like to top a traditional caesar salad with grilled chicken, and we have to admit - it’s a classic combination. That said, you can make things more interesting by using fresh baby kale instead of romaine lettuce and adding toppings like roasted pepitas or sunflower seeds instead of croutons. Use your favourite homemade or store bought caesar dressing, throw in some avocado or maybe some thin-sliced cucumbers and bell peppers, and you’ve got a delicious meal! Here’s a great, simple recipe to get you started - or, get creative and wing it!
Pork Carnitas
Tired of Taco Tuesday? Switch it up with carnitas. They’re packed juicy pork and bold Mexican flavours your family will love. Plus, you can make them in the slow cooker for an easy, delicious meal. There are traditional stovetop recipes that take time and skill, but here’s a good recipe for beginners. All you need is some good tortillas and you’re set!
