Local food and drink pairings you'll love

If you’re familiar with VG Meats, you know that we love local food. In addition to our own beef, chicken and pork products, we offer a fantastic selection of Ontario-made condiments and spice blends in both retail locations. Our Stoney Creek location also sells fresh Ontario produce and local baked goods. No matter how you shop with us, we’re local through and through!

In addition to food, we’ve been known to raise a glass of local beer, wine or cider from time to time. Here are a few ways to successfully pair local food and drink - cheers!

Pork tenderloin and cider

There’s nothing like a tender, juicy pork tenderloin roast or centre cut pork chops served with a cold glass of local cider. If you’re looking for a local cidery recommendation, we love West Avenue Cider in Freelton. They have some great options made with heritage apples from their own farm. If you shop in person, you’ll get to appreciate the beautiful rural property and the quaint shop attached to their tasting room. It’s worth the drive!

VG Meats burgers and craft beer

We love a good burger, and Ontario has dozens of amazing breweries and microbreweries to choose from. Some of our favourites include Hometown Brew in Norfolk, Collective Arts in Hamilton, Nickel Brook in Burlington and Oast House in Niagara-on-the-Lake. To best complement your burger, try an India Pale Ale (IPA), an American pale ale or a lager.

Roast chicken and Norfolk County wine

If you’re roasting a VG Meats chicken, you’re in for a treat— so take some time to choose a nice white wine to pair with your meal. We love Burning Kiln winery in St. Williams. Try the Horse and Boat riesling or the Cureman’s Chard chardonnay. You won’t be disappointed! Other nearby wineries we enjoy include Fielding Estate Winery in Beamsville, Trius Wines in Niagara and Megalomaniac Wine.

Steak and local whiskey

If you enjoy a good steak and a good whiskey, we have great news: VG Meats steaks pair beautifully with Forty Creek spirits. The Copper Pot whiskey is especially good with a nice beef tenderloin, rib eye or Tomahawk steak. Or, after enjoying one of these other great pairings, enjoy a whiskey with your dessert. Go ahead and treat yourself this weekend - you deserve it!

Stay safe and healthy, friends.
