It’s time to plan your holiday dinner!

The holiday season is quickly approaching, and the VG Meats team is already busy at work behind the scenes. We’re getting your holiday favourites ready to go—there’ll be fresh turkeys, smoked ham, delectable Ontario beef roasts, classic side dishes and other homestyle prepared items to enjoy. We’re also preparing gift baskets and making sure we have plenty of gift cards on hand for those hard-to-shop-for people on your Christmas list!

Here’s a quick guide to planning your holiday gathering. Thanks as always for supporting our family-run local business, and please contact us if you have any questions!

Make your list and check it twice

Before you start placing your order, make sure you have a good sense of what you’ll need. How many people are coming to your holiday dinner, and what do you plan on serving? Be sure to include a main course, sides and dessert. Are you hosting more than one event? Make a list of guests and a menu for each meal you’re preparing, then create a shopping list based on these needs. Trust us, a little planning can make things go a lot more smoothly!

Pre-order your turkey, ham or beef roast

There’s something magical about a holiday feast shared with friends and family, and it all starts at VG Meats. We’ve got an incredible selection of holiday favourites including fresh local turkeys, holiday hams, prime rib roasts, prepared dishes and more. Please visit our holiday website to pre-order everything you need for your Christmas dinner and other holiday celebrations. Here are some shortcuts to our most popular products:

And yes, we’ll have turduckens! We know there are a whole lot of you who love them (and some of you have already been asking). Just be sure to order ahead!

Make a to-do list for later

Once you’ve placed your holiday pre-order, you’ll be on the right track—there’s plenty of time to handle the rest of your party planning. Christmas is over a month away, but it’s not too early to make a to-do list. You may be hosting a Christmas Eve dinner, a Christmas Day brunch or supper, a Boxing Day feast or a New Year’s celebration, among other festive occasions. Make a list of what you need to buy and tasks you need to complete, plus dates. This may include cleaning your house before company comes over, replacing that old roasting pan that’s seen better days, getting some festive napkins, making a festive playlist on your phone, busting out the good dinnerware, baking pies (or ordering them from a local bakery) and other jobs. Make sure your meat thermometer is working and you have a great baster and carving knife. These are things you don’t want to be looking for on Christmas Day!
