Father’s Day meal ideas for every dad
There’s just over a week to go until Father’s Day and if you haven’t planned your celebratory meal yet, now’s the time. Our retail locations in Simcoe and Stoney Creek are open for business and if you order online over the next couple of days, you can still get home delivery before Father’s Day weekend. Here’s a list of delivery locations, fees and other important details. Remember, delivery is FREE on all large orders!
VG Meats is a family business that started with our grandfather, was built up by our dad and currently relies on us four brothers: Cory, Chad, Kyle and Kevin. Plus, each of us brothers is a father now, too! It’s safe to say Father’s Day is pretty special around here. So what’ll it be for dinner - a steak, a roast, some chicken, a burger? We’ve got something for every kind of dad - here are a few ideas to get you started.
Classic Dad
If your dad is the classic type, consider a backyard BBQ. As of today, Ontario is allowing gatherings of up to ten people regardless of municipality. Outdoor gatherings are generally considered less risky in terms of COVID-19, and physical distancing is still strongly encouraged (here’s a good overview of the details and recommendations). If your family is able to gather safely, Father’s Day is the perfect time to do it. Space out the lawn chairs, fire up the grill and enjoy some long overdue family time!
For a classic BBQ, we recommend favourites such as burgers and hot dogs, seasoned chicken breasts, pork ribs or sausages. Keep it simple by grilling your favourite fresh vegetables in a little olive oil and sea salt (local asparagus is amazing right now!) and add a green salad, potato salad, coleslaw, pasta salad or even baked potatoes. It’s a meal any dad will love!
Foodie Dad
Got a dad with high standards and a serious love for food? We’ve got some ideas. Consider cooking up a prime rib roast or some melt-in-your-mouth beef tenderloin steaks with all of his favourite side dishes (cook your own or choose from prepared options in our Stoney Creek storefront). Want to seriously impress the man of the hour? Go all out with a delicious Tomahawk steak served with grilled mushrooms and his favourite beer. Don’t forget the dessert - trust us, this will be a meal he talks about for months!
Social Distancing Dad
Depending on your personal situation and your family’s comfort level, you may not be ready to have a small family gathering just yet. We completely understand and respect this - after all, your health and safety are incredibly important to us. It’s better to wait a few more weeks than to make decisions you aren’t comfortable with. If you aren’t able to gather in person, consider cooking up a meal that can be transported and dropped off at your father’s house. This might be a pork roast, a smoked ham, marinated chicken breasts or even a brisket. Add a heartfelt card and you’re all set!
This year, Father’s Day takes place on Sunday, June 21. We look forward to serving you in store or taking your online order at VGfarmtocity.ca. Stay well, everyone!
