Cottage season is here!
With Canada Day just behind us, we’ve officially entered prime cottage season. You may even be at your cottage right now, soaking up an extra long weekend in the sun! If that’s the case, we hope you’re enjoying your downtime and cooking up some delicious meals with your family. There’s nothing like enjoying a juicy burger on the deck after a long day of swimming, boating and lying in the sun! You might even want to jump in the lake again after dinner. (That’s basically the same as showering, right?)
Summer meals for the whole family
The #1 rule of cottage cooking is “don’t heat up the cabin if you don’t have to.” This means using the BBQ as much as possible and avoiding use of the oven and stove top. We love burgers, hot dogs, steaks and chicken breasts on the BBQ (thighs and legs work well, too), but anything is possible. Chicken burgers are a nice change of pace and are perfect for summer. Try slow cooking a beef brisket outdoors or grab a rotisserie attachment and roast up a whole chicken for dinner. These awesome Canada Day bundles are still available, if you want to grab a variety pack of summer favourites!
Side dishes are also easy to make on the grill. Try simple grilled vegetables with olive oil, salt and a bit of garlic (we love asparagus, parsnips, steak cut mushrooms and sliced sweet potato, but almost anything can be grilled). Fresh, local corn on the cob is amazing on the grill - here’s a great recipe to get you started. Potato salad and pasta salad can be made ahead and chilled for lunch or dinner. Toss a cold, crisp green salad to finish off the menu and you’re set!

Have a great summer!
After a crazy couple of months, we all deserve a little vacation - even if we aren’t traveling any farther than our own backyard. Whether you’re in cottage country or staying home, we hope you find ways to relax and unwind. Cheers to a great summer!
