1. What is VG Meats?
VG Meats sells high quality beef, chicken and pork products from right here in Ontario. Our retail locations also carry a selection of local cheese, condiments and other products as well as delicious store-made meals. We are a fourth generation, family-owned company that has proudly been serving Ontario communities since the 1970s. Started by previous generations of the Van Groningen Family and now run by four brothers, VG Meats is proudly based out of beautiful Simcoe Ontario. We have retail locations in both Simcoe and Stoney Creek. VG Meats products are also carried by several major grocery outlets.
2. What is the Farm to City Program?
The Farm to City program by VG Meats allows customers to shop online and choose from home delivery or pick up at one of our retail locations. With Farm to City, you can get our high quality, ethically-raised local meat delivered straight to your door.
3. Where do you deliver?
We deliver to almost 60 locations across southern Ontario, including towns in Norfolk and Haldimand County, Niagara region, the greater Hamilton and Halton areas and the west end of Toronto. Check out our delivery map here.
4. Is there a minimum order amount?
There is no minimum order for pick up or delivery. In order to get FREE delivery, we do have a minimum qualifying order based on where you live. Please check out our delivery table for details on fees that may apply to you.
5. Can I pick up my order?
Yes! We offer pick up at both of our retail store locations (Simcoe and Stoney Creek).
6. Is your beef grass finished or grass fed?
VG Meats' grass fed beef is roughly 92% grass feed ratio, coming either direct from grazing on pasture or from silage grown on the farm. The remainder of their feed comes from spent grains from a local brewery or molasses. This is to ensure that the cattle are not under-nourished, which is a concern with cows that are raised on hay and pasture alone. Our cattle have access to grasses 100% of the time and are out in spacious, open pastures with fresh grass and water for the majority of the year (as long as weather permits). Here's a look.
7. What are the chickens fed?
Our chickens have open access to pasture forages (grass, clover and other natural materials found in the pasture). To ensure that they’re getting to nutrition they need, we supplement this diet with a GMO-free feed.
8. Are you certified organic?
While VG Meats uses an ethical, holistic management system and makes decisions that consider the entire ecosystem of our land as well as the care of our herd, we are not certified organic.
9. Is your meat halal or kosher?
We are not.
10. Do you carry gluten-free products?
Yes, we do carry gluten-free products including our delicious sausages. Our gluten-free products are labeled, but feel free to ask a staff member to offer information and recommendations.
11. What are the sausage casings made of?
It depends on the sausage! Casings can either be natural pork casings, collagen casings (synthetic and edible), or fibrous casings (the kind you need to peel). Please ask a team member if you have questions about a specific product.
